19 hospitals expanding cardiac care

Hospitals and health systems across the nation are adding new cardiovascular services and procedures, and renovating cardiology spaces to meet patient needs.

Here are some of the most recent happenings:

  1. The development of a cardiology-focused ASC in Gautier, Miss., will move forward after a months-long legal fight for certificate-of-need approval.
  2. Gainesville-based North Texas Medical Center launched its cardiac computed tomography imaging program.
  3. The Cardiac Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is opening an outpatient location in Somerset, N.J.
  4. Minneapolis-based M Health Fairview has expanded heart care access at its Maple Grove, Minn., campus by more than doubling the size of its cardiology team.
  5. Germantown, Tenn.-based Stern Cardiovascular, a physician-led cardiovascular practice, partnered with Atria Health to grow its network. 
  6. Geneva (N.Y.) General Cardiology Associates, affiliated with Geneva General Hospital, opened a new location in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
  7. Mercy Hospital Washington in Washington, Mo., opened an expanded cardiovascular catheterization lab as part of a $10 million project first announced in January 2024.
  8. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health opened a heart and vascular clinic in Bluffton, S.C. 
  9. Naples Comprehensive Health Rooney Heart Institute received a $500,000 gift from the Wilson & Johnson Private Foundation to support its new building construction.
  10. Surgeons at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health performed its first combined transcatheter edge-to-edge simultaneous tricuspid valve and mitral valve repair for a high-risk patient who was not an ideal candidate for open-heart surgery.
  11. Raleigh, N.C.-based UNC Heart and Vascular renovated and upgraded its cath labs.
  12. Hudson, Fla.-based HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital opened a hybrid cardiac/electrophysiology room and renovated its electrophysiology suite.
  13. Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health launched a robotic mitral valve repair program at its heart institute.
  14. New Brunswick, N.J.-based Robert Wood Johnson Medical School developed a preventive cardiology program in partnership with Newark, N.J.-based Rutgers Health and West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health.
  15. Brainbridge, Ga.-based Memorial Hospital and Manor opened a cardiac and pulmonary rehab center.
  16. District of Columbia-based Children’s National Hospital opened a research institute within its Heart and Lung Center using philanthropic contributions of over $12 million.
  17. Surgeons at Orlando-based AdventHealth Transplant Institute performed its first heart-after-liver transplant procedure, making AdventHealth one of the few U.S. centers offering the operation. The HALT procedure involved transplanting the liver first to reduce the risk of antibody-mediated rejection before completing a heart transplantation.
  18. Clinicians at Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist became the first ever to use a combined pump and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation strategy to stabilize the heart of a patient early in pregnancy.
  19. San Francisco-based UCSF Health performed its first heart transplant on a patient who received an artificial heart months earlier.
