Baptist Health Fort Smith (Ark.) plans to close its cardiology clinic and end related services as part of a broader restructuring effort, according to an April 29 report by CBS affiliate KSFM-5News.
The changes follow earlier cuts, including the April 28 closure of labor and delivery services, as well as 40 layoffs. Additional specialty services, including nephrology, pulmonary, oncology and infectious disease, are set to end over the next two months.
The hospital will also close multiple outpatient clinics, including cardiology, as it reduces service lines tied to declining volumes and financial losses.
About 150 employees are affected and will receive 60-day paid severance, along with opportunities for reassignment within the system.
The restructuring is tied to $127 million in losses from 2018 through March 2026 and is intended to stabilize operations while maintaining core services such as emergency care, surgery and radiology, according to the report.
