Columbus-based OhioHealth is piloting an AI-driven alert system to improve detection and treatment timelines for heart valve disease.
The tool, evaluated in the ALERT trial, sends real-time notifications to physicians based on echocardiogram results, identifying patients who may need further heart and vascular evaluation, according to a May 4 hospital news release.
The study, conducted across five academic and community-based health systems, found patients were more likely to be referred to specialists sooner and undergo procedures within 90 days.
The AI system is designed to support physician decision-making by flagging potential cases for review rather than directing care. OhioHealth said the approach targets earlier identification of conditions such as severe aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation to improve outcomes.
At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
