Medscape surveyed 9,226 physicians across 29 specialties between July 5 and Oct. 9. The news outlet published reports for each specialty surveyed and an overall review of the data across specialties.
Here are eight lifestyle statistics to know about cardiologists:
- Cardiologists said they maintain their happiness and mental health most through spending time with family and friends, exercise and activities or hobbies.
- About 25% of cardiologists said their diet is “very healthy” while 59% said it was “somewhat healthy.”
- A majority (53%) of cardiologists would take less pay for a better work-life balance.
- About 58% of cardiologists exercise two to five times a week and 30% consume less than one alcoholic drink a week.
- Of cardiologists, 34% said they are on the internet for professional use for less than two hours a day, 37% they use the internet for two to four hours a day and 29% said they use it for more than four hours a day.
- The vast majority of cardiologists are married (83%), and 86% said their marriage was “very good” or “good.”
- Most cardiologists have a spouse or partner in healthcare, with 29% saying their significant other is a physician and 30% saying they work in the field but not as a physician.
- Seventy percent of cardiologists said they take three to six weeks of vacation each year.
