Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital, in partnership with Tulane University and LCMC Health, both based in New Orleans, completed its first heart transplant.

The procedure was performed through the Tulane University Heart Failure and Transplant Program at East Jefferson, which received authorization to perform heart transplants from the United Network for Organ Sharing in December, according to a June 18 system news release.

“Our team is proud to be part of this landmark achievement,” Sasa Vukelic, MD, head of advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at East Jefferson, said in the release. “This is more than just a clinical success — it’s a turning point for our patients, our hospital and the future of advanced cardiovascular treatments in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf South region.”

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
