The organization assessed 4,728 hospitals across 14 service lines or categories — including cardiology — using the most recent publicly available clinical data and HCAHPS scores from CMS, along with national accreditation information. To qualify for the heart care list, hospitals had to offer at least six cardiac or vascular services, including cardiac surgery, carotid stenting and electrophysiology.
Hospitals on the list achieved HCAHPS ratings above the national average (67%) and performed among the top 11% of facilities based on CMS’ heart care measures assessing mortality and readmission rates among Medicare patients.
