Health systems and cardiology groups are accelerating investment in outpatient cardiovascular infrastructure over the past month.

Seven organizations, from academic medical centers to independent physician groups, opened facilities, launched affiliate networks or committed major capital to cardiology expansion, reflecting the ongoing shift of cardiac care away from inpatient settings and toward specialized outpatient and ambulatory models.

Here are seven moves to know, as reported by Becker’s since Sept. 16:

  1. Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine opened an approximately 80,000-square-foot outpatient center on the campus of Huntley, Ill.-based Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, expanding cancer, heart and specialty care services.
  2. Miami-based cardiology group MyCardiologist opened the MyCardiologist Ambulatory Care Center, a new outpatient cardiovascular facility located in Miami Lakes, Fla.
  3. Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine will open a multidisciplinary practice in Southampton, N.Y., in November that will offer cardiology, vascular surgery and family medicine services.
  4. The University of Kentucky Gill Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Network added two new partners in Kentucky.
  5. Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine is establishing the Smilow Center for Precision Therapeutics with a $25 million gift from the Smilow Foundation. The center aims to develop curative therapies for heart disease for the first time.
  6. Denver-based CardioOne, a partner for physician-owned cardiology practices, partnered with Warrenville, Ill.-based CardioSphere, a cardiovascular-focused MSO.
  7. Northwell Health’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center cut the ribbon on a $12.6 million outpatient cardiology facility in New Hyde Park, N.Y.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
