Highest-paying settings for cardiologists

Offices of physicians are the highest-paying setting for cardiologists on average; they earn more than $300,000 there than in the lowest-paying setting, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

The data was released April 3 and uses information from May 2023.

The national average annual salary among cardiologists in all industries in the U.S. is $423,250. Cardiologists have consistently been among the top-paid specialties in medicine, but the average salary can vary depending on the industry.

Here are the average yearly salaries for cardiologists in the five industries the BLS tracks:

Offices of physicians: $458,050

General medical and surgical hospitals: $374,850

Outpatient care centers: Greater than or equal to $239,200

Employment services (administrative and support positions): $166,600

Colleges, universities and professional schools: $154,210
