New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln will receive nearly $10 million in state investment to complete its cardiac catheterization lab.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Congress Member Ritchie Torres announced the state investment Aug. 10. The funding will complement city and federal commitments totaling $5 million. The investments will fund the space build-out and purchase of specialized imaging systems, C-arm angiography equipment, patient monitoring systems, and sterile supplies, according to an Aug. 10 system news release.
Lincoln Hospital has more than 125,000 annual emergency department visits and is the busiest single-site ED in New York City, and third busiest in the nation. It serves South Bronx communities, which historically suffered from a lack of access to critical cardiac care in a high-risk population, according to the release. Currently, after stroke stabilization, patients must be transferred to another hospital to receive treatment for stroke or ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Providing on-site interventions will reduce risk of permanent disability and mortality and break down access barriers.
