Children’s Hospital Los Angeles named John Cleveland, MD, division chief of cardiothoracic surgery and co-director of the Heart Institute.
In this role, Dr. Cleveland will advance patient care, surgical outcomes, research innovation and education. He will co-direct the Heart Institute with Paul Kantor, MBBCh, co-director and division chief of cardiology, according to a Sept. 22 hospital news release shared with Becker’s.
Previously, Dr. Cleveland served as associate chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the hospital’s Heart Institute, and program director of the congenital cardiac surgery fellowship.
He succeeds Vaughn Starnes, MD, who stepped down as division chief and co-director, but will remain the H. Russell Smith Foundation Chair in Cardiothoracic Surgery at CHLA, a cardiothoracic surgeon in the Heart Institute and chair of the department of surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
