Northwell hospital debuts Vena MicroAngioscope procedure

Northwell Health’s Staten Island (N.Y.) University Hospital became the first comprehensive stroke center in the U.S. to perform the Vena MicroAngioscope procedure.

The MicroAngioscope endoscopic imaging system allows physicians to directly visualize vessel walls, device positioning and blood flow dynamics in real time, according to a May 6 news release from Northwell shared with Becker’s

Neurosurgeon Raphael Sacho, MD, led the milestone surgery. 

Northwell is the second health network in the country to provide the procedure, the release said.
