Roxana Mehran, MD, was named president of the American College of Cardiology.
She is the first female cardiologist from New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System to hold the position, according to a March 30 system news release. The last Mount Sinai cardiologist to be named ACC president was Simon Dack, MD, in 1956.
Dr. Mehran is director of the Women’s Heart and Vascular Center at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital and director of the Center for Interventional Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials, and is a professor in cardiovascular clinical research and outcomes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, according to a March 30 system news release.
“My mission will be to advance cardiovascular care through innovation, equity and global collaboration — working closely with our partners at the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology to improve heart health for all,” Dr. Mehran said in the news release.
She will serve as the organization’s chief leader, spokesperson and chair of the board for one year.
