Valdosta, Ga.-based SGMC Health has added positron emission tomography cardiac stress testing to its imaging services, enhancing diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease.
The new Siemens PET scanner provides high-resolution, 3D images of blood flow during pharmacologic stress, offering improved clarity, measurable blood flow, lower radiation exposure and shorter scan times compared to traditional nuclear tests, according to a Jan. 28 system news release.
The system is the region’s only level 1 emergency cardiac care center and the only hospital in South Georgia offering open-heart surgery, a structural heart center and a comprehensive electrophysiology program, according to the release.
