Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine has begun developing an open-heart surgery program at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
The program is part of a more than $400 million capital investment to expand specialty care in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, according to an Oct. 16 news release from the health system.
The first open-heart procedures at Berkeley are expected to begin in late 2026.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
