UMass Memorial taps cardiac surgery chief

Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health has appointed James Barnard, MD, as chief of cardiac surgery in the department of surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center. 

Dr. Barnard previously served at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust’s Wythenshawe Hospital in the United Kingdom, according to an Oct. 24 news release from UMass Memorial Health. 

“His depth of expertise and commitment to advancing cardiac surgical care will be invaluable to patients across the region and our team as we continue to expand and enhance our cardiac surgery program,” Andrew Karson, MD, chief physician executive at UMass Memorial and president of UMass Memorial Medical Group, said in the release.
