In total, 132 VA hospitals reported 2023 data on timely and effective care to CMS, of which statin medication is a reported measure. Data from 62 hospitals was not available for statin use at discharge because the hospitals did not have enough patients who met the reporting criteria, the hospitals’ results were included in a parent hospital’s data or the hospitals failed to report on the measure.
Statin medication is considered first-line therapy for patients who present with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, meaning hospitals that report a higher percentage of patients discharged on statin medication performed better on this measure.
