People with heart disease who receive a shingles vaccine saw a 46% cut in major cardiac events and a 66% cut in deaths within a year, a study presented at the American College of Cardiology’s Annual Scientific Session found.

Researchers used TriNetX data for more than 246,800 U.S. adults older than age 50 who had atherosclerotic disease between 2018 and 2025. Half of the study participants received at least one dose of the Shingrix or Zostavax vaccine.

In addition to cutting deaths, the vaccine was linked to a 32% reduced risk of heart attack, 25% reduced risk of stroke and 25% reduced risk of heart failure.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 18–20 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
