Only eight hospitals have been designated as venous thromboembolism or deep vein thrombosis Centers of Excellence by the National Blood Clot Alliance.

NBCA recognized healthcare centers that demonstrate exceptional commitment to blood clot prevention, diagnosis and treatment, according to its website. Recognized hospitals have comprehensive approaches to patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, commitment to continuous improvement and education, and community involvement. These centers create a network of leading institutions that set the standard for blood clot care.

NBCA VTE Centers of Excellence offer comprehensive care for both pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, in addition to their focus on VTE prevention and education.

NBCA DVT Centers of Excellence offer specialized and systematic care to patients diagnosed with DVT in addition to a focus on prevention and education of VTE.

Currently, only seven hospitals have been recognized as VTE Centers of Excellence and one hospital as a DVT Center of Excellence.
