Tampa General Hospital launched a complex cardiothoracic surgery program at its TGH Brooksville hospital and completed its first open-heart surgery, Florida Politics reported.

The procedure was a single-vessel coronary artery bypass graft with a mitral valve mass excision and an atrial appendage clipping. The surgery was a success and the patient is recovering in the ICU, according to an Aug. 24 system news release.

Tampa General completed its acquisition of the hospital and two others nearby in December 2023. In May 2025, TGH Brooksville in Tampa, Fla., opened cardiac rehabilitation services and in July 2025, it added an advanced heart failure clinic. The new complex cardiothoracic surgery program allows patients to receive care close to home and brings more sophisticated specialty services to the community.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
