States with the most, fewest cardiologists, cardiology techs

Connecticut, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia all saw an increase in the number of employed cardiologists and cardiovascular technologists in the last year.

Becker’s analyzed Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 2024 and 2025 to find the total number of employed cardiovascular technologists and cardiologists and the percent change between years by state.

Only four states saw an increase in both positions, while eight states — Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Tennessee and Washington — saw a decline in both positions.

For cardiologists, Florida had the greatest increase between 2024 and 2025 with 67.3%, while New Mexico had the greatest drop of 71%.

For cardiovascular techs, Alaska and the District of Columbia both doubled their number of employed techs, while West Virginia saw a 25.5% decline in employed techs.

Here are the states and the District of Columbia, with the total employed cardiologists and cardiovascular techs, along with the percent change from 2024.

Editor’s note: If employment data was missing from either the 2024 or 2025 report, it is indicated with “NA.” If data was missing from either year, Becker’s did not calculate the percent change.
