Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Heart Hospital broke ground on a $21.5 million expansion, Sioux Falls Business reported Nov. 3.

The 31,000-square-foot, three-story addition will house diagnostic imaging services and administrative space, which will free up space for more clinical services in the hospital’s main building. Diagnostic services will include cardiac MRI, PET and SPECT scan technology, three nuclear stress rooms and fifteen echo/vascular sonography rooms.

The expansion is expected to be completed in winter 2026.

Avera Heart Hospital was the first in South Dakota dedicated to heart and vascular care and opened in 2001, according to the report. This is its largest expansion yet.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
