New York-Presbyterian/Columbia medical center names 3 heart leaders

New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center has appointed three cardiac leaders.

Arnar Geirsson, MD, was named chief of the division of cardiac surgery. He will lead a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive surgical care for a full range of heart disease. He previously served as director of minimally invasive cardiac surgery and later chief of the division of cardiac surgery at New Haven, Conn.-based Yale School of Medicine.

Hiroo Takayama, MD, PhD, was appointed vice chair for cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery. He will oversee strategic and clinical leadership across divisions, and support program growth, surgical innovation and academic excellence. He will continue to serve as co-director of the aortic center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Andrew Goldstone, MD, PhD, was named director of the section of pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery. As director, he will lead a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive surgical care for patients with congenital heart disease, from birth through adulthood.
