Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare’s Pulse Heart Institute has launched a cardiac ultrasound school in partnership with Arizona Heart Foundation in Phoenix.
The satellite school will offer a one-year accelerated program that combines classroom instruction and clinical rotations, according to an April 6 system news release. Pulse will oversee rotations at sites across Washington and Arizona Heart Foundation will supply the instructors and curriculum. This is the first time both organizations have partnered across state lines.
Demand for sonographers has increased across specialties in recent years. The number of sonography graduates rose by 23% between 2011 and 2021, lagging behind both the number of open sonographer positions, which grew by 36%, and ultrasound exams performed, which rose by 55%, according to the release.
