Mayo leader recognized for advancing women’s heart health

Sharonne Hayes, MD, founder of the Mayo Women’s Heart Clinic in Rochester, Minn., will receive the Lila A. Wallis Women’s Health Award from the American Medical Women’s Association.

The award will be presented during AMWA’s 111th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, which runs March 27-29. The honor recognizes lifetime achievement in women’s health education, research and advocacy, according to a Jan. 22 news release. 

Dr. Hayes is a professor of cardiovascular medicine at Mayo Clinic and directs both its Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection Clinic and annual WomenHeart Science and Leadership Symposium. She also served as the system’s inaugural director of diversity and inclusion from 2010 to 2020.

Her career has focused on sex- and gender-based cardiology, patient education and improving diversity in medical research.
