The Joint Commission is partnering with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology to launch a new cardiac care certification program focused on patient outcomes.
The certification will incorporate data from three national registries: the STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database, the ACC CathPCI Registry and the joint STS/ACC TVT Registry for transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures, according to a Jan. 29 news release.
Slated to launch in 2026, the program aims to shift emphasis from structure and process measures to real-world clinical performance. Hospitals seeking certification will use existing registry data, reducing administrative burden while demonstrating quality care.
The initiative is part of the Joint Commission’s next-generation certification strategy under its Accreditation 360 framework.
