Jefferson Health taps heart institute leader

Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health has appointed Joseph Bavaria, MD, as executive director of the Bruce & Robbi Toll Heart and Vascular Institute and chair of the department of cardiac surgery at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College, also in Philadelphia.

In his new role, Dr. Bavaria will lead a new cardiovascular program at the heart and vascular institute that will unify the cardiac surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery, cardiac anesthesia and vascular medicine care teams, streamline patient experience and expand clinical trial access, according to a Feb. 13 news release from Jefferson Health. 

Dr. Bavaria previously served as vice chief in the division of cardiovascular surgery, director of the thoracic aortic surgery program, co-director of the transcatheter valve program, and founder and co-director of the Penn Aorta Center at Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine.
