Pueblo, Colo.-based UCHealth Parkview Medical Center ended its cardiothoracic surgery program June 1, according to a report from The Pueblo Chieftain

Patients who require cardiothoracic procedures will be referred to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the health system is consolidating those services under a cardiovascular center of excellence model.

The change affects surgical procedures involving the heart, lungs and esophagus. Patients will continue to receive preoperative appointments and follow-up care at Parkview, according to the report.

UCHealth did not disclose why it ended the program or how many patients and employees will be affected.

The closure leaves Pueblo without a provider of cardiothoracic surgery services. Colorado Springs-based St. Mary-Corwin Hospital, which is owned by Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health, also does not offer cardiothoracic surgery, according to the report.

Becker’s has reached out to UCHealth for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
