Cleveland Clinic has launched an initiative to integrate cardiovascular genomics into clinical care and research.
The initiative will be composed of two programs with the Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute, the Haslam-Bailey Family Section of Cardiovascular Genomics and Precision Medicine and the Center for Cardiovascular Genomics and Data Sciences, according to an Oct. 28 news release from Cleveland Clinic.
The two programs aim to bring research discoveries directly to patients while also offering access to clinical trial opportunities, the release said.
Krishna Aragam, MD, will serve as director of both the Haslam-Bailey Family Section and the Center for Cardiovascular Genomics and Data Science, as well as inaugural holder of the William E. Macaulay Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Genomics.
Dr. Aragam joins Cleveland Clinic from Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital and Cambridge, Mass.-based Broad Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard.
