Anchorage-based Providence St. Elias Specialty Hospital earned stroke and brain injury specialty program accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International.
Alaska has one of the highest rates of trauma and brain injury in the nation, and the highest rate of traumatic spinal cord injury in North America, according to an Aug. 13 system news release. Providence St. Elias is the only CARF-accredited medical inpatient rehabilitation program in Alaska and treats patients with trauma, stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, cardiac conditions and other neurological illnesses.
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting organization that promotes quality, value and optimal outcomes. Accreditation is the highest level of recognition given by the organization and is given to programs that are providing measurable, accountable and high quality services. For Providence St. Elias, accreditation reflects compliance with nearly 2,000 accreditation requirements.
