AHA adds sleep to ‘Life’s Essential 8’ for heart health

Sleep duration was added to the American Heart Association’s “Life’s Essential 8” list for cardiovascular health, The Washington Post reported July 12.

The suggested goal for sleep duration is seven to nine hours daily for adults and more for kids. Besides adding sleep to the list, the organization expanded details on other categories. For example, exposure to secondhand smoke and vaping was included for smoking.
