Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health and Intermountain Health Primary Children’s Hospital are expanding care for pediatric pulmonary hypertension and complex cardiac conditions with a new endowed chair.
The expansion includes the establishment of the Gunnar Hyde Endowed Chair in Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension at the University of Utah, according to a Sept. 25 news release shared with Becker’s. Established with a $10 million gift from Leonard and Tannie Hyde, the chair will support the recruitment, retention and leadership of nationally recognized specialists dedicated to improving outcomes for children. The chair is named for the Hydes’ 5-year-old grandson, Gunnar, who is treated for the condition by the organizations’ care teams.
The gift will also broaden access to specialized care teams and advanced treatments and support research to improve long-term quality of life for pediatric heart patients.
Pediatric pulmonary hypertension is a rare, progressive condition.
