HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appointed two heart center professors as new members to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
The two experts are
- Venkatesh Murthy, MD, PhD, a cardiologist and health innovation researcher at the University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor and professor of preventive cardiology.
- Ronald Karlsberg, MD, a clinical professor of medicine at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Smidt Heart Institute.
Mr. Kennedy made eight new member appointments Sept. 17 through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, bringing the task force up to 16 members. The task force determines which preventive services must be covered by most private insurers without cost-sharing under the ACA.
The new task force members also include a pediatric hematologist-oncologist, a pediatrician, a health finance professor, a family medicine physician, a gastroenterologist and a diagnostic radiologist.
