UVA Health will replace its heart and vascular service line with its new institute, The Cavalier Daily reported July 8.
The Heart and Vascular Institute, which launched in May, unites faculty from the School of Medicine, University Medical Center and vascular teams across the system’s outpatient clinics and community hospitals to create a unified system-wide care model, according to a May 27 system news release. The institute replaces the current service line, which is based out of the University Medical Center. Although the institute does not yet have a physical location, it will offer heart and vascular care in a host of locations across the system.
The new structure will establish joint committees between the medical center and community hospitals and outpatient clinics to streamline connections among clinicians and optimize patient care. The institute will be overseen by John Bennett, chief service line and ambulatory operations officer for UVA Health.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
