The American Heart Association appointed two Duke Health cardiologists as president and president-elect.
The AHA appointed leaders to volunteer roles for fiscal year 2026-27. They will step into their roles on July 1.
Manesh Patel, MD, an interventional cardiologist, chief of cardiology, chief of clinical pharmacology and vice president of heart and vascular services at the Durham, N.C.-based system, will serve as volunteer president.
Svati Shah, MD, vice-chief of research in the division of cardiology, director of the Adult Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic in Duke’s division of cardiology, co-director of translational research in the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute and associate dean for translational research and director of the Duke Center for Precision Health and the Precision Genomics Collaboratory in the Duke University School of Medicine, will serve as volunteer president-elect.
Lee Shapiro, JD, will continue to serve as chairperson of the board; Linda Gooden will serve as chair-person elect; and Robert Sean will be treasurer.
