Pittsburgh-based UPMC opened its $85 million Children’s Heart Institute on June 4.

The heart institute will provide comprehensive, lifelong care for congenital heart conditions through adulthood, according to a system news release. The 50,000-square-foot institute includes three cardiac catheterization labs, nine private pre- and post-procedural rooms, 14 cardiac exam rooms, eight ECHO labs, a cardiac exercise lab and space for a new pediatric cardiac rehabilitation program to open in 2027.

The center is designed to treat patients locally, regionally and internationally, according to the release. It is the biggest addition to the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh campus since 2009.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
