Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico Hospital became the first certified comprehensive stroke center in the state.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center Gold Seal of Approval, awarded by The Joint Commission, was issued after surveyors performed on-site observations and interviews with various members of the stroke team. The certification recognizes the hospital for having advanced resources to treat the most complex and time-sensitive strokes, according to a May 6 news release.

“I’m incredibly proud of all our clinicians and staff who helped achieve this important milestone,” Kate Becker, CEO of UNM Hospital, said in the release. “This work wasn’t done overnight. This seal represents years of building up a team committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive stroke care to New Mexicans that surpasses national standards.”

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
