Five heart societies have created a consensus document that outlines how to start and maintain a program for transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions.
The document aims to help hospitals and health systems build programs to treat patients with native valve severe tricuspid regurgitation using devices for transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement and transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.
The recommendations include how to build a multidisciplinary team with the expertise it needs, the core competencies required, the procedure volume for foundational procedures such as open heart surgeries, and the volume of TEER and TTVI expected in the market. The writing committee also suggests outcome and performance metrics to track.
The document, published March 25 in JACC, was created in collaboration with the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, Heart Rhythm Society and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
