VUMC appoints cardiac division leader

Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center has appointed Andrew DeFilippis, MD, as director of the division of cardiovascular medicine. He will step into the role Dec. 1.

Dr. DeFilippis holds multiple leadership roles for the health system, including associate chief of staff at Vanderbilt University Hospital, inpatient segment leader at Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute, and associate program director of Vanderbilt’s internal medicine residency program.

He served as medical director of the system’s cardiovascular ICU for five years and is the founder and director of its myocardial injury translational research laboratory, according to a Nov. 14 VUMC news release.

Dr. DeFilippis joined VUMC in 2020 after establishing a cardiovascular critical care unit at University of Louisville’s (Ky.) Jewish Hospital, where he served as director of the university’s cardiovascular disease prevention center.
