Geisinger names cardiology chief

George Ruiz, MD, has been tapped to serve as cardiology chair at Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger, The Danville News reported June 9.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Ruiz will also serve as vice chair of the Geisinger Heart Institute alongside John Conte, MD, chairman of cardiothoracic surgery at the system.  

2. Dr. Ruiz is a clinical cardiologist with a subspecialty in adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension. 

3. Before joining Geisinger, Dr. Ruiz served as chief of cardiology at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore.
